Connecting to the adapter
What adapter do I need?
A Wi-Fi ELM327-compatible OBD2 adapter, about $20. It plugs into the port under the dashboard. Bluetooth-only adapters don't work with iPhone yet.
The app can't reach the adapter
- Turn the ignition on (or start the engine) so the adapter has power.
- In iPhone Settings › Wi-Fi, join the adapter's network (often named OBDII or WiFi_OBDII). iPhone may say it has no internet; that's expected.
- Make sure no other app is connected to the adapter.
- Unplug the adapter for a few seconds, plug it back in, and tap Try again.
My adapter uses a different address
Most Wi-Fi adapters use 192.168.0.10, port 35000, and SecondLook also tries other common addresses on its own. If your adapter's manual lists a different address, enter it in Settings › Adapter. "Reset" puts it back.
Still can't connect? Send us diagnostics
On the Connect screen, or in Settings › Help, tap Send diagnostics and email it to support@secondlookscan.com with a line about what happened. It includes the connection attempts and your adapter's replies, which helps us see what went wrong.
The app says Local Network access is off
Open iPhone Settings › SecondLook and turn on Local Network. The app needs it to talk to the adapter.
It said the adapter stopped answering during the drive
Cheap adapters sometimes drop out for a few seconds. Keep driving; SecondLook reconnects on its own and keeps what it already recorded. The screen shows how many readings were missed.
Reports and purchases
What's free and what costs money?
Connecting, the quick scan, and the test drive are free. Unlocking the full report for a car (explanations, repair costs, and a suggested price reduction) is a one-time $19.99 in-app purchase. There's no subscription.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the SecondLook purchase.
Where are my reports? Can I get them on a new phone?
Reports are saved on the phone that ran the scan, under "Your reports" on the home screen. We don't keep copies on any server. If you use iCloud Backup (or back up to a computer), your reports are included in that backup, so setting up a new iPhone from it brings them back. Deleting the app deletes them from the phone. To keep a separate copy, open the report and tap Share to save or send its link.
How do I delete a report?
Open the report and tap Delete report at the bottom, or touch and hold it in "Your reports" on the home screen. Deleting can't be undone. If you paid to unlock the report, deleting it doesn't refund the purchase, and you'd need to scan the car and pay again to see a full report. Refunds for purchases go through Apple (see "How do I get a refund?" above).
Is the report a mechanical inspection?
No. SecondLook is a screening tool based on the car's own diagnostic data. It catches common red flags quickly, but for an expensive car or anything it flags, a professional inspection is still a good idea.
